The launch page checklist: what to ship in 5 days
For a launch, a funding announcement or Demo Day, you don’t need a full website. You need one page that says what you do and asks for one action. Here’s what goes on it, in the order we build it.
Day 1: The message
- Headline: say exactly what the product is. Julian Shapiro’s test is that someone who reads only the headline knows what you sell (Julian Shapiro).
- Subheadline: how it works and why it matters, in one or two sentences.
- One action: join the waitlist, book a demo or sign up. Pick one.
Run every line through copywriter Harry Dry’s three tests: can you picture it, can it be proven wrong, and could a competitor say the same thing (Upgrow)?
Day 2: The structure
- Hero: headline, subheadline, the action and a product visual.
- Proof: logos, a quote with a name, or a number.
- How it works: three steps, with screenshots.
- Details: the features that answer the biggest objection.
- FAQ: pricing, security and who it’s for.
- Final call to action: the same action as the hero.
Day 3: The design
- Use your brand system, or set a simple one: one type pairing, two colors and one button style.
- Show the real product. Screenshots beat illustrations.
- Design for phones first, because many visitors will open your link on one.
Day 4: The build and setup
- Fast hosting and a custom domain
- Analytics and a working form or waitlist
- A page title, a description and a social share image
- A favicon, legal links and a contact email
- Alt text and readable contrast
- A short plain-text summary of the company for AI search tools
Day 5: Test and launch
- Open the page on three phones and two browsers.
- Click every link and submit every form.
- Check load speed and the share preview on X, LinkedIn and Slack.
- Launch, and watch the first hour of analytics.
Common mistakes
- A slogan instead of a description
- Three buttons asking for three different things
- No proof anywhere on the page
- A wall of features with no product visuals
